The Vintage Football Jumper Company, in conjunction with Woolmark and the Essendon Football Club, is proud to release a series of retrospective vintage jumpers 'The Premiership Collection'.
Few gave the Bombers a chance in 1993. With many 1980’s stars entering the early years of their retirement, Kevin Sheedy turned to a band of 'Baby Bombers'. The names Hird, Wanganeen, Fletcher, Misiti and Mercuri were virtually unknown across the AFL world, but they were about to become household names. Essendon pulled off a remarkable 42-point comeback to beat Adelaide in the Preliminary Final then lined up against Carlton in the decider. The Bombers had 13 scoring shots to three in the first quarter. They extended their 25-point margin to 37 points by half time and it was a deficit the Blues were never able to reel in. Essendon marched to a dominant 44-point victory of the arch enemy to secure its 15th VFL/AFL premiership cup. Michael Long picked up the Norm Smith Medal. He ended the day with 33 possessions and two goals. Paul Salmon was another major contributor with five goals whilst Mercuri (3 goals), O’Donnell, Harvey and Thompson were all outstanding contributors.
To commemorate this momentous premiership, this limited in edition rare jumper features the authentic Nubrik sponsor woven patch and the official AFL 1993 Grand Final patch as worn in period and the merino wool in this Guernsey was grown by sheep grazing the Australian landscape, cared for by Australian farmers, and shorn and manufactured here in Australia. This jumper has been manufactured under official license by the Australia Football League with 100% Australian merino wool and features a traditional V-neck collar design with a replica AFL 1993 Grand Final woven patch and sponsor logos on the chest and is a must-have for any Bombers diehard.
